Here's another gem of a free campsite, near Yellowstone's Northwest entrance. If you couldn't get a spot in one of the many first-come-first-serve campsites at Yellowstone, and you are Buffalo watching up in the Lamar Valley, then this spot is a great option for a restful night's sleep with the lullaby of the rushing river. A scenic slender peak watches over the area, and you'll not be surrounded by other campers as in the park.
Jedediah Smith State Park is one of the most mysterious and amazing national parks. The tallest trees in the world live here. Check out the Stout Grove for some of the largest, although do some googling about the hidden Grove of the Ancients to embark on a misguided voyage into the heart of the park, in search of some enormous trees.
