Free Campsite on the Alaska Highway, Canada

This was high on my list of favorite spots discovered along the Alaska Highway.  The snow-capped craggy peaks nearby made for a perfect picture frame around bushy meadows, a small lake, and a dirt road in the middle of nowhere.  Check out the location on a map of the image below, using the Photo Investigator App:

The dirt road juts off the Alaska Highway in an empty forested area.  About a mile down the road was a radio tower, so the road is likely kept in good repair.  Follow the road as far as you please afterward, and find a spot with enough room to pull off slightly and set up camp.  Just down the hill from the location of the above image, a small lake ringed with ducks makes for a nice picnic.  The snowy mountains don't lie, make sure to have a mummy bag and plenty of warm clothes, but there are benefits to nearly freezing: the mosquitoes were few.
